This is the first of a series of marque histories to be published by Autocourse, the authoritative and prestigious motor racing annual. Bruce McLaren's motor racing team was established late in 1963 and won its very first Championship series in New Zealand and Australia in January/February 1964. They progressed through 'big-banger' sports car racing with large-capacity American V8 engines and from 1967-1971 won the mighty CanAm Challenge series no less than five consecutive times. After a tentative debut in Formula 1 Denny Hulme very nearly won the World title for them in 1968 and they remained a front-running force to be reckoned with until, with Marlboro backing and Emerson Fittipaldi driving, their first Grand Prix World Championship title was taken in 1974. Two years later James Hunt did it again in the Marlboro-McLarens, winning his historic season-long battle with Niki Lauda, and Ferrari. Add the Indianapolis cars which brought McLaren three victories in the world's most famous track race, and the production Formula 2, 5000 and sports cars. It's all here. This is the full story of McLaren Cars 1963-1980 and of the subsequent McLaren International team carrying on the old traditions, all set down in digestible yet massive detail. The cars, the races, the men behind the team - this is the complete marque history of McLaren. Vissza
