The development of effective anti-secretory agents such as histamine-2 receptor antagonists allowed, for the first time, tolerable methods for control of acid secretion resulting inQn improvement in the treatment of duódénál or gastric ulcer disease. The discovery of proton pump inhibitors has provided a more effective means of control of acid secretion, resulting in rapid healing of all upper Gl ulceration, including erosive esophagitis.
