Thematröid theory colloquium was held in Szeged (Hungary) between August 29 and September 4. 1982.
Among the large number of International combinatorial colloquluar organized In Hungary by thejanos Bolyai Mathematical Society, this was the first one devoted entirely to matroid theory. Tutorial series on regular matroids and matroid minors {P. Seymour), on oriented matroids (f. Edmonds and M. LasVergnas). on matroid oracles (B, Korte)» of engineering applications of matroids (H, Cfâpo and M. Iri) and a farg€ number of invited and contributed talks gave an up to date picture of this rapidly deveîopiftg branch of discrete mathematics. Special at» lention was paid to the applications of matroids, which are becoming more and more Important îif many tfeas.
