Mark Twain's exciting and dramatic tale of a London beggar boy and the young prince who was to become Edward VI is a classic story of mistaken identity. Twain's purpose here was both to entertain and to show how savage were some of the laws and customs in earlier times. He also suggested that justice would be more merciful if the makers of the laws had some experience of the sorrows of the poor.
The book conveys a vivid picture of England in the sixteenth century. Life was precarious, not only in the narrow, dirty streets of London, but also at the glittering court of Henry VIII where every action was noticed with suspicion.
This is Mark Twain's famous story, unabridged. It is also obtainable from Dent in a hardback edition with colour illustrations.
