This meticulously detailed handbook, a consolidation of tine vast knowledge and many years of experience among experts in systems engineering, is an indispensable guide for all personnel — technical or managerial — involved in a systems effort. Full descriptions of every phase of computer technology, both for new and existing systems, are included, making the book a permanent reference is a constantly changing field.
Subtitled ARDI, an acronym derived from the pivotal activities in the methods advocated — Analysis • Requirements Determination • Design and Development • Implementation—the handbook expresses the thought process that occurs, not only in these four main activities, but at a very detailed level throughout a project.
In creating ARDI, the authors have contributed significantly to the state of the art, by organizing descriptions of the systems effort in the form of a planning network. Each activity of the network is discussed separately, with all techniques and methods necessary for its successful execution.
Balancing the systems engineering aspects of a project, the authors also discuss management's relation to the organization and guidance of an integrated effort. Stressing the importance of management, from an initial decision, through implementation and evaluation, the volume provides ample evidence of the balance needed between any company's strategic goals and its managerial and operational control requirements.
