Michael Allaby is a well known author who has written many books for young adults. He was the winner, in 2001, of the Aventis Prize for the best science book for readers under 14. He is a member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Derek Gjertsen has taught history of science and philosophy at universities in England and West Africa. He is currently a member of the philosophy department at the University of Liverpool. He is the author of several titles on science and scientists, and alsó coedited the Oxford Dictionary of Scientists (1999).
