Mainline Beginners is L. G. Alexander's new generál course for secondary and aduit students about to begin the study of English as a foreign language. It is designed to fit into the existing New Concept English framework and is parallel in level to NCE First Things First.
Mainline Beginners consists of two parts, A and B. Each book is based respectively on the specifications published by the Council of Europe under the titles Waystage and The Threshold Leve/. These specifications, intended to cover the first two years of study, provide the basis for a functional/notional syllabus in that they define objectives in terms of the learners' communicative needs. This principle has been fully applied in Mainline Beginners.

Mainline Beginners A and B each comprise the following : A Course Book (for use by teachers and students), a Teacher's Book and a Set of Tapes. Test material is in preparation.
