This multidisciplinary book surveys recent knowledge and advances regarding magnesium. Chlorophyll, the green pigment of plants, is not synthesizable without magnesium, which is alsó the fourth most important element found in the humán body. The environmental and biological roles and functions of magnesium, from soil and water, from plants and animals to the humán organism are summarized. A geological description is followed by the biomedical portion of the book which deals with absorptionJmalabsorption and dietetics of elemental magnesium. Etiology and cardiovascular consequences of magnesium deficiency syndrome are discussed in detail. An up-to-date review of the cardiac electrophysiology and clinical use of magnesium is included.
