In the past few years, there have been a great number of developments in several areas of the life sciences, particularly in genetics, biochemistry and immunology This is increasingly reflected in the life sciences/ biology courses taught at both school and university In order to provide students with a really valuable reference tool this second edition has undergone a major revision. Many of the previous zoological entries have been pruned, while 300 new entries have been added to cover new developments in molecular genetics, molecular biology biochemistry and immunology plus more entries for microbiology and the inclusion of basic statistics and chemistry entries. Many existing entries have been substantially revised.
Where necessary the entries are supplemented by fully labelled black-and-white line drawings.
The book is designed not only for teachers and students of biology but also for those who work in related scientific and technical fields and for the general reader with an interest in these subjects.
