Angéla O'Rourke is six years old when her parents pass her over to the care of an aunt and uncle in a distant village. It's a common practice for large, hard-up families in 1950s Ireland, but for Angéla it means only one thing: that her mother and father don't love her any more.
Angéla is well cared for till she's sixteen - but then her uncle takes to drink and it's not safe for her to stay in his house. Travelling to Liverpool to train as a nurse, she moves on to fashion design, where everything is changing as the 1960s progress. Soon she's making her mark, but the pain of a disastrous love affair takes the edge off her success, and she heads home to Ireland.
Sorting through papers, Angéla makes an astonishing discovery. As she learns the truth about the past she is finally free of the old sorrow: and a brighter and happier new future beckons.
Praise for Lyn Andrews' compelling novels
A page-turning and beautifully written növel' Irish World
A compelling reád' Woman's Own... Tovább
