HAROLD BLOOM is William DeVane Professor of English at Yale
University. He is the author of several influential studies of Romanti-
cism, including The Visionary Company and Blake's Apocalypse. His
most recent works include Yeats and The Anxiety of Influence: A
Theory of Poetry.
