RÓBERT BOYERS Róbert Boyers is Professor of English at Skidmore College and editor of the influential quarterly Salmagundi. Author of more than seventy essays published since 1965 in journals like Partisan Review, Kenyon Review, American Poetry Review, The New Republic, and Dissent, he has alsó edited a variety of volumes including R. D. Laing & Anti-Psychiatry (1972), The Legacy of the Germán Refugee Intellectuals (1972), and Contemporary Poetry In America (1975), In 1976 Kennikat Press issued his Excursions: Selected Literary Essays of Róbert Boyers. 'There is obviously going to be a spate of books on Lionel Trilling in the very near future, and the debate already seems to be polarized between frozen loyalties and patricidal hatred. The considerable value of Boyers's monograph is its judiciousness and lucidity . . . there is no discussing Trilling without somé personalizing of recent history, and Boyers handlés this with a combination of affectionate argument and distanced acuity...
