LIMBO '90 Limbo '90 is the first book of science-fiction to project the present-day concept known as 'cybernetics' to its logical and terrifying conclusion. For cybernetics, concerned with electronic brains and similar devices, could be appiied to the government of the body, particularly in movement. Bemard Wolfe takes us forward to a time when men are beginning to mutilate their minds and bodies voluntarily in the search for a less aggressive existence. Young men whose natures have been pacified by the voluntary amputation of their limbs are known as the Immobs, but in spite of their sacrifices a war breaks out between opposing sections of a dismembered United States. This is the climax of a story in which electronics and cybernetics are unassailably used to lend a wholly new element of terror to science fiction.
