OR over fifty years Messrs Nelson have been issuing pocket editions of standard authors at popular prices. In 1900 came the New Century Library, the progenitor of today's Nelson Classics, and sets of Dickens, Thackeray and Scott went out in great quantities to the four quarters of the earth, soon to be followed by many more of the masterpieces of the English language. The critics sang their praises : ' Marvellous little volumes'- Examiner; ' Light, small 'and legible'-Pali Mail Gazette; ' Marvels of compactness and neatness'- Queett; ' The very pattern of a modern edition ' -Morning Post. And a periodical of that leisured age took upon itself to say : ' He who runs may read, and that with no fear of destroying his eyesight.' Since then, and with modifications to suit contemporary tastes and pockets, this library has grown great in quantity and reputation. In our day The Times has said : ' One hundred and thirty millión copies of books worth reading : that is the publishing record of... Tovább
