Last Words is a collection of brand-new poems, commissioned by the Salisbury Festival, from the leading poets of these islands especially fór the last year of the century. Fór one week at the end of 1999, the city of Salisbury was transformed intő a giant book. Poems were flown from aircraft and written in stained glass; were tattooed onto skin, displayed in shop Windows and on billboards, beermats and bús tickets, shown in cinemas, projected onto buildings and lit up in fireworks. Last Words nőt only gives readers a chance to experience this historic event from the comfort of their armchairs - it alsó provides a vivid and unique photo-album of the current poetry scene, and an index of the poets who will matter in the millennium. Salisbury Festival's Last Words project was made possible by funds from the Árts Council's Árts 4 Everyone scheme.
