Towards the end of the ninth century A.D. the Magyar tribes abandoned the last of their Asian homelands and moved westwards into the Carpathian Basin. Not long afterwards, King Stephen I founded the Hungárián state and converted his subjects to Christianity-thus facilitating integration with the European community of peoples. Later on they deal with the national revival in the nineteenth century, the epic 1848 Revolution, Hungary as part of the Dual Monarchy, and the country's eventful history since 1918. This book, which is intended for the generál reader, provides a good introduction not only to the struggles and vicissitudes of Hungary's past, but alsó to the undoubted successes and real achievements of the Hungárián people. Although much attention inevitably focuses on political developments, social history and the arts are given extensive coverage. Somé helpful maps are included. Vissza
