Jozef CHLEBOWCZYK. historian. Professor at Silesian University in Katowice. Born in 1924. he completed his studies at the Central School of Planning and Statistics in Warsaw (the former Central School of Commerce). He took his doctorate at the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 1961, and qualified as Assistant Professor at the Philosophical-Historical Faculty of Jagiellonian University in Cracow in 1966. In 1972 he obtained the title of Associate Professor and in December 1977 became full Professor. Jozef Chlebowczyk specializes in modern and recent general and Polish history, paying special attention to the nationality problem in East-Central Europe in the 18th —20th centuries. He is the author of; The Economy of the Teschen Demesne at the Turn of the 17th and in the First Half of the 18th Century (1966); Elections and Social Consciousness in Teschen Silesia in the Second Half of the 19th Century.
