The worldwide crisis 2008 financial crisis was comparable in the scale of its implications to the Wall Street Crash of 1929. Its causes and consequences, however, remain a matter of controversy, as do the impact of the measures taken to deal with it.
This volume, which challenges many conventional views on the subject, comprises edited versions of papers delivered at a major international conference in Budapest on l4-15th November 2013 — the first major event to be staged by the Danube Institute.
Among those attending the conference at the Károlyi-Csekonics Rezidencia were politicians, diplomats, academics and business leaders as well as senior advisers to European governments.
Speakers included the former British Chancellor of the Exchequer, Norman Lamont, Peter J. Wallinson, co-chairman of the official US inquiry into the causes of the crisis, and Péter Akos Bod, a former Governor of the Hungarian Central Bank.
