John Hennessy joined the sports staff of The Times in 1948 and was Sports Editor from 1954 to 1979. Since 1959 he has specialised in winter sports, concentrating first on skiing and latterly on skating. He has reported on the last six Winter Olympic Games for The Times and in 1980 was awarded the bronzé medál of the Olympic Order by Lord Killanin for services to the Olympic movement.
