Introducing Stylistics deals in a lively and practical way with an area which has made a striking impact on contemporary English and related studies.
It introduces students to textual analysis with an emphasis on practical exploration in developing descriptive and analytical concepts.
Part 1 deals with methods, and develops the students' ability to describe and understand stylistic concepts rigorously, and to broaden their notions of language and text. Part 2 discusses a rangé of texts to apply and develop these methods. Part 3 provides material and suggestions for work on wider intertextual comparisons.

Throughout, the author encourages students to experiment and explore, by re-writing the texts he provides, by examining discourse motives, and by relating the work to their own everyday lives and concerns.
