There is an ancient Chinese proverb which says that anyone who can write his name can draw. Like all such proverbs it contains a truth and no doubt, with much hard work and application, there are few who could not make some showing in the field of art. The same is true of writing and doctors spend a deal of time, pen in hand. What they need however is someone to help them express themselves clearly and this is just what Professor Calnan and Mr Barabas have done.
The amount of wisdom which the senior author has distilled into this little book is out of all proportion to its size. His style is lucid, attractive yet artlessly unadorned. I have made a New Year resolution to present a copy of this little book to each assistant who comes to work with me. It is the best guide I know to preparing a medical paper and if it is true that the young doctor must publish or be damned, salvation was never had so cheaply.
I commend this book to all aspiring medical authors.
