Making Sense of Idioms has been specifically written for students of English at a lower intermediate level for individual and classroom use. It presents approximately 200 idioms, sayings and conversational phrases either visually or contextually, and then offers the student an opportunity to practise them in a variety of guided exercises. A comprehensive reference section at the back of the book gives extra information on all the idioms presented. The idioms have been selected for their frequency of use and are grouped into 20 functional areas so that students can leam to use a rangé of idioms related to one or two functions at a time, for example, praising and criticising, knowing and not knowing, being safe and taking risks.
