About the Author
Colonel J. K. Stanford, O.B.E., M.C., author of Grouse Shooting, has had a distinguished and varied career. He served in both the World Wars. In the 1914 War he was with the Suffolk Regiment and Tank Corps, being wounded, mentioned in despatches and awarded the M.C. From 1919 to 1938 he served with the I.C.S. in Burma, where he was a Deputy Commissioner. He was awarded the O.B.E. for his work in the Burma Rebellion, 1930-31. He rejoined the Army in 1931 and served in France and in the Middle East, attaining the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. From 1944-50 he was Chairman of the well-known geographical firm Edward Stanford Ltd. He has travelled widely and has given particular study to ornithology in Africa and in Asia.
