JERZY KOSTROWICKI, Professor, Dr. Sc., corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, director of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences, member of many Polish and international scientific organizations and societies, Vice-President of the International Geographical Union, honorary member of Serbian and Croatian Geographical Societies. Studied economics at the Central Higher School of Commerce in Warsaw, geography at the Warsaw University, geography and planning at the London School of Economics. Scientific interests - economic geography, particularly the geography of agriculture, also the geography of towns, problems of the natural environment and spatial development. Author of about 300 scientific publications in Polish and foreign languages, including "The Geographical Environment of Poland" (three editions), "An Outline of the Geography of Agriculture", "Types of Agriculture of the World"; co-author of the textbook "The Economic Geography of Poland" (many editions), editor and co-author of "Bialystok Voivodship. A Geographical and Economic Monograph", "Changes in the Spatial Structure of Agriculture in Poland 1950-1970" and other works. Author of "Poland.
