Investors environmental guidelines has been compiled to provide investors with a
practical and user-friendly reference to environmental requirements of the central and
local authorities in central and eastern European countries. It focuses primarily on
requirements for investments in industry, such as: environmental liability;
environmental audit requirements; environmental assessment requirements; land use
planning; permitting; air, water, noise and waste requirements; and chemical storage,

and information on how long it takes to obtain approvals.
The guidelines have been compiled to help all those involved throughout the
investment preparation process, particularly the investors themselves. They have been
designed both for investors with little prior knowledge of environmental requirements
and for environmental specialists. The sections covering liability and regulatory
compliance will be of particular interest to lawyers. The unique and up-to-date coverage
of environmental legislation is of particular interest to policy makers, consultants and
NGOs, both within and outside the countries covered. The guidelines also allow
comparison between each country's investor-related environmental requirements.
Investors' environmental guidelines is the first publication resulting from a major
project on Harmonisation of Environmental Legislation and Standards between
Eastern and Western Europe, executed by the European Bank for Reconstruction
and Development and the European Community's PHARE Programme.
