HAMBY, W. B. (Univ. Buffalo) — Intracranial Aneurysms (1st Ed. '52). With this book and intracranial angiography at his disposal the SURGEON can better cope with the situation. The PHYSICIAN may not be as interested in the technical aspects of therapy, but he will be able to contribute improvements in therapy when he better appreciates the surgeons' problems. 524 pp., 193 il., $14.25

NERVOUS TRANSMISSION
In the next three chapters, the effects of refractoriness, narcosis and electrotonus upon nervous transmission are described.
An important final chapter gives a full account of the properties of small myelinated and non-myelinated nerve fibers; then the properties of the nerve fibers; then the properties of the nerve trunk, as described in most text-books, are explained but upon the new but rigid bases.
The account of the nervous transmission presented in this book is, in a sense, a review of recent experiments, done mainly on isolated single nerve fibers, dealing with the nerve impulse in peripheral nerves. By the use of the microtechnique developed mainly by the author and his collaborators, it is now possible to follow the process of propagation of bioelectric activity from one region of a nerve fiber to the neighboring, or, from node of Ranvier to node in the myelinated nerve fiber. Propagation occurs by restimulation by the action current.
