The past decade has seen a vast number of innovations in the small arms field, in military and in commercial and sporting weapons, and also in their associated ammunition. This book is a review of the modern small arms currently available throughout the world, together with their ammunition, sights and other accessories. It begins with an introductory section setting out the current state ofthe art, describing the recent designs in terms of their technological impact, and generally discussing the whole small arms field as seen today.
This is followed by an encyclopedic section which is under the headings Pistols, Rifles, Machine Guns and Submachine Guns and Shotguns. More than 170 entries will cover those guns which have been developed over the last two decades and those in current military service. Many famous and historic names - Browning, Smith & Wesson, Remington and Ruger for example - are featured together with some of the younger companies such as Heckler & Koch. The guns included also show a wide diversity of style and application. They include the Chinese Type 64 Silenced pistol which appears practical only for assassinations, the revolutionary Heckler & Koch G-11 rifle which uses a caseless cartridge, classic sporting rifles Uke the Parker Hale 1200H, the Czech Scorpion machine pistol and the neo-classical AYA Model 25 shotgun.
