This book outlines, in simple non-technical language, a psychiatrist's contribution to the problems of satisfactions at work, individual and group behaviour under stress, leadership and training, leisure, absenteeism, etc., which are the daily concern of industrialists and personnel managers. The author bases his remarks on long experience of conducting group discussions in these subjects; and his aim is to stimulate the reader to think for himself, rather than to offer any cast-iron conclusions.
This book was first published in 1949, and has been used as a textbook on many management courses. The new edition has been largely rewritten and expanded throughout with new material. It also provides examples and different methods of teaching, which could well be used in practice. The author is Physician to the Dept. of Psychological Medicine, University College Hospital; he was previously Psychiatrist to the Maudsley Hospital, Regional Psychiatrist to the S.E.
