HOWARD BREWTOM was born in Portsmouth in 1942, Revenge, his first full-length play, was presented at the Royal Court's Theatre Upstairs in 1969. Other plays include Gum and Goo (Brighton Combination, 1969), Christie in Love (Portable Theatre, 1969), Heads,, The Education of Skinny Spew (both at Bradford University, 1969), Wesfey (Bradford Festival, 1970), Scott of the Antarctic (Bradford Festival, 1971), Hitler Dances (Traverse Theatre Workshop, 1972), Measure for Measure (Northeott Theatre, 1972), Magnificence (Royal Court Theatre, 1973) and Brassneck (written with David Hare; Nottingham Playhouse, 1973), Brenton was joint winner of the Arts Council's John Whiting Award in 1970 and was resident dramatist at the Royal Court Theatre for 1972/3.
