As a high school science teacher, MARTIN M. GOLDWYN heard his students ask hundreds of questions ranging from "Why does paint peel?" to "Why can't ashes bum?" He began collecting and recording the most serious, thoughtful, and frequently asked questions and set aside class time to discuss their answers in order to help students see the relevance of science to their everyday lives. This book, the natural outgrowth of those informal classroom discussions, now shares the answers with a wider audience.
