• cross-cultural and cross-curricular studies. Students are encouraged to compare their own language and culture to that of English and the world of English speakers. Topics from other school subjects are introduced to integrate language studies with other subjects on the curriculum.
• learner training. Through a variety of activities including a learning diary, self-checks and project work, students are guided towards good learning strategies and encouraged to accept responsibility for their own learning.
This level of Hotline comprises a Student's Book, Workbook, Teacher's Book and a set of two audio cassettes.
This Workbook contains write-in exercises related to all sections of the regular units of the Student's Book. Answers to all the exercises are provided in the Teacher's Book.
Additional features of the Hotline Workbooks are:
• culture spots. Each unit contains a culture spot section which highlights an aspect of British life and invites the students to compare and contrast this with life in their own country.
• self-checks. Each unit contains a self-check of the main learning points in the unit. This allows the students to test themselves and at the same time provides the teacher with useful feedback on individual student progress.
• grammar summaries and explanations. To complement the problem-solving grammar approach of the Student's Book, the Workbook provides full grammar summaries and helpful explanations as well as additional grammar exercises.
• crosswords. Revision units feature a crossword for vocabulary revision.
