In the last few years there has been a most marked increase of interest, all over the world, in high voltage direct current power transmission.
The authors are closely associated with the conception and design of the only laboratory outside Sweden and the U.S.S.R. to be devoted to large scale research and development in this field. In addition to setting out the results of their own practical research ^work, the book includes an extremely comprehensive list of references, which indicates how widely the authors have ranged over all available literature. They have also had opportunities of consulting many international specialists in h.v.d.c. and associated techniques.
There does not exist, at the present time, any comparable volume. It is likely to be of permanent use to electrical engineers concerned with power transmission problems, to consulting engineers, to teachers of electrical engineering, and to students.
