mm Despite the growing awareness of the incidence of sexual abuse, many people still find it an impossible subject to face. Survivors can experience a lack of understanding, or even totál rejection, and within church communities additional pressures are often placed on those who have been abused. In Hidden Treasure, Muriéi Green and Anne Townsend combine both personal and Professional experience to help those in the Church come to terms with the issue. mm Despite the growing awareness of the incidence of sexual abuse, many people still find it an impossible subject to face. Survivors can experience a lack of understanding, or even totál rejection, and within church communities additional pressures are often placed on those who have been abused. In Hidden Treasure, Muriéi Green and Anne Townsend combine both personal and Professional experience to help those in the Church come to terms with the issue. Both authors know the pain of being rejected by their faith communities, and, having struggled to a new awareness of God, they integrate that awareness with their perceptions and feelings about sexual abuse. This book confronts a number of issues: the reality and incidence of sexual abuse; the powerful conspiracy of silence that surrounds it; the experience of disclösure; coming to terms with the past and with overwhelming feelings of anger and guilt; the sensitivity and hypocrisy that exists, particularly within the Church, about sex; how spirituality is affected by the journey towards healing; the particular issues for those who belong to a church. The book is illustrated by a number of personal , accounts set within a thérapeutic framework, and the authors provide insight and alsó practical suggestions for clergy, counsellors and other pastoral carers, as well as for those involved in their own journey towards healing. Muriéi Green and Anne Townsend do not pretend that the journey towards healing is anything other than a complicated and slow process, but they share their own experience of God being with them. It is as though Christ embraces my suffering, the evil, the darkness and despair and transforms it - transforms the sordid mess into something beautiful, a hidden treasure beyond value and price. I don't altogether understand the process, but I know that it is happening and in the recognition of this awesome mystery, God becomes for me, yet again, a whole new experience.' Vissza
