In the midst of a cacophonous crowd, Mary Shumway has rediscovered the joy of good sounds. Her rhythms translate into a compelling sense of forward motion and her consonants and vowels play against one another in a carefully orchestrated casualness. And she knows the difference between the trivial and what matters. Which is to say that Mary Shumway is a poet, which is no small thing and something to be glad about.
-miller williams
I am lovingly taken by all these poems. They sing themselves to factfelt experience in a real swirl and reawakening of language. They make me happy. What better can poems do?
