Kart Geiringer's definitive study is based on more than thirty-five years of research. As curator of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, he was in charge of one of the world's leadinq Haydn collections, and his scholarly investigations have taken him to Eisenstadt, to libraries in Berlin, Paris and Washington D.C., and as a guest of the Hungarian government, to the previously inaccessible archives of the Princes Esterházy in Budapest.
