Veterán reporter Harrison E. Salisbury began his newspaper career while still in college. While attending the University of Minnesota, he worked nights as a reporter and rewrite man for the United Press in St. Paul. and edited the college paper as well. After graduation, he started on the old Minneapolis Journal as a $i5-a-week cub reporter, subsequently (in 1930) joining the United Press. Mr. Salisbury covered stories Harrison E. Salisbury, author of for the U.P. in ChiThe Shook-Up Generation cago, Washington and New York, among others the A1 Capone income tax trial, many Washington New Deal stories, and Huey Long's assassination in Louisiana. In 1943 he was made London manager and director of European coverage for the U.P. He became head of the Moscow Bureau in 1944, spending eight raonths there.
