George Fnderic Handel (1685-1759) líved for the last fifty years of his life ín London and for a majority of that period, from 1723 untíl his death ín 1759, at what is now No, 25 Brook Street. It was at this house that he composed the major musical scores between the operas Giulio Cesare and Tamerlano (1723-4) and his last major English oratorio, Jephtha (1751). During the thirty-six years that he lived at Brook Street, Handel composed a majority of his most famous works including the coronation anthem Zadok the Priest, the Music for the Royal Fireworks and Messiah. No. 25 Brook Street is therefore one of the most sígnificant addresses in the history of Western music.
