The "Handbook on the European Union" has reached its sixth edition in Hungary. It was first published in English in 2002, and in Slovak in 2004, on both occasions with the financial assistance of the European Commission. Since its conception, the book has made its way into the curricula of several universities and colleges, as weil as the courses of the Hungarian Institute for Public Administration. This new revised and extended edition is published simultaneously in Hungarian, English and French.
The book provides a comprehensive overview of the European Union and its functioning from a political, economic as well as legal perspective, outlining the EU's institutions, policies and legal and decision-making mechanisms in simple language. It also contains a glossary of over 300 terms, which can serve as a compendium on its own. Zoltán Horváth followed his studies in Hungary, France and the United Kingdom, writing his PhD thesis on EU decisionmaking. He has worked at the University of Economics of Budapest, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and, in recent years, at the Office for Foreign Relations of the Hungarian Parliament, as the Head of its EU Department.
