Greater VANCOUVER
As the Canadian Pacific Railway neared completion in 1884, manager William Cornelius Van Home arrived at Burrard Inlet. He foresaw that this key port was "destined to be a great city" and insisted on naming it "Vancouver" after the captain who landed there in 1792.
Vancouver was designated the western terminus of the CPR on April 6, 1886. Van Home knew that Vancouver's spectacular setting would make it an international tourist attraction. Even the visionary Van Home would be astonished to see just how right he was.
Vancouver is a city whose time has come. It offers a unique quality of life and a mild climate. Tourists, retirees and the wealthy have long been attracted to Vancouver's ocean and mountain views.
