During recent years, an increasingly clear and detailed picture has
emerged of the ways that poverty, exclusion from education and
social disadvantages - including discrimination based on biases
related to gender, ability, social class/caste and ethnicity - all lead to
inequities in health. Health research has a vital role to play in
