Functioning in Business

Functioning in Business is for pre-intermediate students who are preparing to use English in a business context. It has been constructed with three aims in mind: first, to develop efficient próduction and recognition of key phrases; second, to develop listening ability; third, to expand the student's basic business vocabulary. By following a typical business story through nine episodes, and listening to the dialogs on videó or audio cassette, students are introduced to the key functional phrases for moving ahead in any business situation. Core vocabulary is introduced in a preliminaiy unit and is then recycled so that the course becomes increasingly easy for the student as progress is made. Each episode is organized into listening sections, based on the dialogs, followed by cloze exercises for consolidation and role play. In order to help students reach the "production" stage more effectively, this new edition has introduced more explicit presentation material so students are taken through the stages of presentation, controlled practice and then freer production of the key functional phrases.
