THE CATS THAT WALK ALONE
Since the beginning of time, the most feared predator has been the cat. Pictures and stories of these graceful creatures are enough to awaken million-year-old memories, when the guttural cry of a wild killer on the prowl was enough to make our ancestors huddle closer to the fire. Today, wild cats connect us to the vanishing wilderness. Like bears and wolves, they are the ultimate wilderness animals: They don't like civilization; they don't adapt well to it; in fact, they flee from it. This, too, strikes a chord in many of us.

Beautifully illustrated by Kitchin and Hurst's captivating photographs of cougars, lynx and bobcats, Kobalenko's entertaining text interweaves fact and anecdote, legend and natural history to create a lively, informative record of the continent's elusive felines.
Kobalenko began writing about the outdoors in the mid-1980s while pioneering the use of cross-country sleds on arctic ski expeditions. Since then, he has continued to combine writing and photography with hands-on adventure. He has edited two national magazines and written articles on science, wildlife, the wilderness and photography for leading publications in Canada and the United States.
Kitchin and Hurst's photographs have appeared in numerous nature, news and general-interest publications around the world, mdud'mg Audubon, Geo, National Wildlife, Newsweek, Reader's Digest and Time magazines. Their previous books include The Wolf: Ghost Hunter, published by Firefly Books. Kitchin and Hurst live in Vancouver, British Columbia. Vissza
