The first volumes of short stories published in the mid-1950s show him ah adherent to folk traditions in style and thematic conception. The short stories and novellás he wrote in the 1960s bring him closer to that trend in Hungárián fiction in which the historical, political, and morál choices necessitated by our time are posed in terse, unadorned style with great conceptual power.
