famous actress seems a dazzling prospect to Ellen Fenwick, far
removed from the fireside teas and prize-givings of her Yorkshire

Lettice Cooper was born in Eccles, Lancashire, but lived in Yorkshire
until 1939, when she moved to London to join the staff of Time and
Tide. A one time President of the English Centre of PEN, she has
published adult and children's fictioji and biographies of Robert
Louis Stevenson and Dickens in a distinguished writing career which
has spanned more than sixty years. \
