All young children love to be read to, and fairy tales are an important part of the literature of childhood all over the world. Most children have a favourite from amongst these tales. Here, in Fairy Tales for Young Australians, the best loved tales are reimagined. Characters such as little Red Riding Hood and Goldüocks appear with Australian creatures such as a dingo and three koalas. Other characters have become completely Australian, such as Poss in Boots (short for possum). The background is entirely Australian - a bush or rainforest setting established by Jan Wade's beautiful illustrations. These paintings, which allow native plants and animals a starring role, give extra dimensions to these delightful Fairy Tales. Jan Wade's formai training was at East Sydney Technical College. She first worked as a press artist for the Sun and Womarís Day, but for most of her career she has specialised in illustrations for children's books, including Nursery Rhymes for Young Australians and...
