The Dictionary presents the essential ideas and concepts of the science of economics and shows how they are applied in various forms to industry and public affairs in the world today.
The arrangement of the material in alphabetical order follows the established pattern of Everyman's Reference Library, and consists mostly of short articles. The style adopted is one which will be readily understood by the untrained reader; technical terms, when they are used, are fully explained in easily understood language.
In order that the coverage of the work may be seen as a whole, and that the important matter of cross-reference is properly organized, a related subject index is provided in thirteen numbered sections, each followed by most valuable reading lists. Every article has one of these numbers printed at the end, enabling the reader quickly to refer to allied subjects. It is thought that this unique feature will be particularly valuable to students.
Many of the articles were written by the compilers: the rest were prepared in collaboration with a number of specialist university and other economists.
