The present book Everyday Chinese: Brighter Readings in Classical Chinese is a follow-up course to the first two books of his Everyday Chinese series published by the New Worlid Press in 1983 and 1985.
In 1982, Zhong Qin, an associate professor of the Peking (Beijing) Languages Institute, began devising the EVERYDAY CHINESE to meet the needs of foreign readers who already have a basic grounding in Chinese language. The first two books of the series, EVERYDAY CHINESE: 60 Eables and Anecdotes and EVER-DA YCHIHISE: Selected Prose Readings were published by the NEW WORLD PRESS in 1983 and 1985 respectively.
The author now adds a third book, EVER YDA Y CHINESE: Brighter Readings in Classical Chinese, to his series. For this book he has selected a variety of articles from Chinese historical records and classical literature, which have been loved and appreciated by countless generations of the Chinese people. They include favorite myths, essays, poems, and fairy tales. Making use of his long years of experience in teaching foreigners Chinese, the author gives a brief introductions to Classical Chinese grammar. A useful appendix to the book contains a conversion table of Chinese Phonetic Alphabet, International Phonetic Alphabet and Wade-Giles System, a list of the simplified Chinese characters and a chronological table of Chinese History.
