ABOUT THE AUTHOR
An associate professor of the Peking Languages Institute, Zhong Qin has 30 years of experience in teaching the Chinese language to foreigners — among other places in the language departments of Qinghua (Tsing-hua) University, Peking University, Foreign Languages Institute of Peking and Higher School of Languages, Cairo, Egypt. He has also taken part in the preparation of a number of textbooks, dictionaries and handbooks. On Chinese Phonetics (Commercial Press, Peking) and Chinese for You — Learn to Speak Putonghua (Man Hal Language Publication, Hong Kong) are two of his most recent writings. Zhong Qin is now working on a book of selected prose readings.
The "Chinese" discussed in this book is the language of the Han nationality which makes up over 90 percent of China's one billion population.
