In our society, where social and political problems are almost always rooted in conflicting,interpretations of what is right, the need for philosophical clarification of these moral dilemmas is particularly great. The nine distinguished contributors to this volume, which grew out of a series of lectures sponsored by the Department of Philosophy at the University of Kansas, bring a wide variety of backgrounds, methods, and points of view to the consideration of contemporary moral questions; yet a remarkable unity emierges with respect to specific moral judgements. This is an important volume: the need for clarification of the concepts we employ in our everyday world has never been so urgent.
