AND UNCONVENTIONAL ENGLISH 8th Edition Completely Revised For over fifty years the name Eric Partridge has been synonymous with slang and unconventional English. At first it was that of his comrades in the Great War; then in the 1930s his coverage of slang widened considerably, and he began work on his famous dictionary, now in its eighth edition. Although Partridge had, in late 1978, handed on his notes to the new editor, he was still adding to them until only six weeks before his death in June 1979. Thus the new edition has somé 7,500 extra entries, and is alsó very much easier to handlé and consult. A further innovation is the Appendix, which contains nearly one hundred short articles and self-contained bodies of 'parochial' slang. The book gives a full and documented account of English slang over four centuries: it will be of great use to serious students of literature and social history, now and in the future, and provide hours of amusement for the light-hearted browser.
